5 Ways to correct your mistakes at work
“No one is above mistake.” This is a common and yet a true saying. Mistakes are unavoidable as we journey through life. Anyone who wishes to achieve great things in life is bound to make mistakes. Whoever is afraid of making mistakes can never be a master or an achiever.
Mistake is the best way to learn how to do things in a better way. Many great inventions today were not hit at a go. But after several trials and errors, they arrived at the best method and gave the world the best. Your ability to take the following steps will give you an edge over your mistakes at work.
Accept your mistakes
It is a sign of weakness and lack of integrity when you fail to take responsibility for your faults and failure. On the other hand, you prove your maturity and honesty when you learn to accept your faults.
Mistakes are bound to happen. But when it happens, the first way to correct it is to accept that you’ve made a mistake. Do not try to cover it up or pass the blame to others. File in a report to the appropriate quarters for necessary correction.
Take responsibility for the mistake, and bear the consequence, if any. By doing this, you learn the bad way and better way of carrying out a task. Next time when the task is to be carried out, such mistakes are avoided. By such, you are treading the path to perfection.
Once you discover and accept that an error has been made by you, then you are one step gone. The next thing to conquer is fear. There is a natural instinct to fidget when an error has been committed. But, fear in this situation is not the solution neither can it provide solution to the problem. What you need to do is to calm down. An error has been done, no doubt. Do not hesitate to ask for help from your colleagues who are more experienced than you are if cannot proffer solution to it on your own. Instead of muddling things up, try to contact those who can help you fix things up. By doing this, you get the problem solved and learn better ways of doing it next time.
Ruminate on the causes
Take time to think about the error made. Evaluate the cause of the mistake; is it due to carelessness or lack of concentration? Evaluate the effect it had on you and on the job. Analyze the solution you were able to provide by yourself and the contribution of others.Identify the new skill(s) you’ve learn while correcting your mistakes and how you can utilize these skills for better productivity. Spell out ways of avoiding a repetition of the errors made. A careful consideration of all these will erode the fear of mistakes or failure and lead you on to development and success in life.
Only the best is good for you in every task. See your mistake as a way of giving your best. Do not be too much in a hurry to meet up with a deadline to the point that you leave out vital things while making corrections. This will only leave your work worse than the first. Rather, it should be an avenue to include the necessary things that make the work richer and of greater quality.
